Resumen
Es frecuente identificar a Jean Bodin y Thomas Hobbes como los dos autores principales en la elaboración de la moderna teoría de la soberanía. En esos relatos históricos se suele considerar que Bodin fue un primer intento lleno de incoherencias y que fue Thomas Hobbes quien desarrolló con todas sus consecuencias el concepto de soberanía. En este artículo se advierte que los dos pensadores tienen conceptos diversos de soberanía. Además, se estudia la influencia directa e indirecta de Bodin en Hobbes. Para terminar se exponen los motivos por los que la posteridad ha prestado mucha más atención al inglés hasta convertir su idea de soberanía absoluta en el modo habitual de entender la soberanía.

Abstract
Jean Bodin and Thomas Hobbes are frequently identified as the two main authors of the modern theory of sovereignty. I those historical narratives Bodin is often considered as the first attempt, full of inconsistencies while Thomas Hobbes developed the concept of sovereignty in all its consequences. In this article we will show that those two thinkers have divergent concepts of sovereignty. Besides, the direct and indirect influence of Bodin on Hobbes is investigated. Lastly, the article shows the reasons why the posterity has payed much more attention to the English writer, up to turn Hobbe’s idea of absolute sovereignty in the usual interpretation of sovereignty.
